Delhi → Singapore

Singapore has nothing that resembles a cold season. It is tropical every month, holding 27–33°C, so packing is the same in January as it is in July: light clothes, something for rain, and shoes you can walk far in. What changes across the year is only how wet it gets.

The rain peaks from November to January. The clearer, more comfortable stretch runs February to April — the driest months, with the humidity easing off. Travellers arriving from a drier climate tend to feel the humidity more than the heat, which is exactly why that window is the one to aim for if you have a choice.

Outside those preferences, the calendar matters more than the weather. Indian festival periods, school holidays and long weekends all tighten seats on this route, so book earlier when your dates fall near them. If your plans are flexible, comparing several departure days will usually do more for your budget than picking a particular month.

Singapore uses the Singapore Dollar (SGD) and sits in UTC+8 — a few hours ahead of South Asia, enough to notice on the first morning but not enough to cost you a day of your trip. English is an official language alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil, so immigration, transport and everyday conversation are all straightforward.

The first thing to buy is an EZ-Link card. The MRT and bus network is world-class and reaches essentially everywhere a visitor wants to go, which means taxis are optional rather than necessary. When you do want a car, Grab works perfectly and is the better option than flagging one down on the street.

Eat at hawker centres. At $3–8 a meal they are the best value in the city and, more to the point, the food is better than the tourist restaurants clustered around Clarke Quay. Rules are taken seriously here: chewing gum is banned, eating and drinking on the MRT is not allowed, and jaywalking really is fined.

Three tiers cover most trips. Geylang and Lavender are the budget end, useful if you plan to spend your money on food and attractions instead of the room. Bugis and Kampong Glam are the mid-range choice with the most street life on the doorstep. Marina Bay is the luxury tier and the postcard view.

For a two- or three-day stop, do Gardens by the Bay, eat properly at a hawker centre rather than snacking, walk the Chinatown Heritage trail, and add Sentosa Island if you want a beach day bolted on. That set works just as well for a transit stopover as for a full holiday.
